Steak in Creamy Cajun Shrimp Sauce
Ingredients:
For the Steak:
- 2-4 steaks (ribeye, sirloin, or your preferred cut)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter
- 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning (optional)
For the Creamy Cajun Shrimp Sauce:
- 1/2 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup chicken broth or white wine
- 1-2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning (adjust to taste)
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Red pepper flakes (optional, for extra heat)
Instructions:
1. Cook the Steaks:
- Season: Pat the steaks dry with paper towels and season both sides with salt, pepper, and Cajun seasoning (if using).
- Sear: Heat olive oil or butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the steaks and cook to your desired doneness (about 3-5 minutes per side for medium-rare).
- Rest: Remove the steaks from the skillet, cover with foil, and let them rest while you prepare the sauce.
2. Prepare the Creamy Cajun Shrimp Sauce:
- Cook the Shrimp: In the same skillet, add a bit more butter if needed. Cook the shrimp for 1-2 minutes on each side until pink and cooked through. Remove the shrimp and set aside.
- Sauté Garlic: Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Make the Sauce: Pour in the chicken broth or wine to deglaze the skillet, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom. Let it simmer for 2 minutes.
- Add Cream and Seasoning: Stir in the heavy cream and Cajun seasoning. Let the sauce simmer for 3-4 minutes until it thickens slightly.
- Add Parmesan and Shrimp: Stir in the Parmesan cheese until melted and smooth. Add the cooked shrimp back to the sauce and heat through. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes, if desired.
3. Assemble the Dish:
- Serve: Place the rested steaks on a plate and generously spoon the creamy Cajun shrimp sauce over the top.
- Garnish: Sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley.
Serving Suggestions:
- Side Dishes: Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or a side of steamed vegetables.
- Bread: Pair with crusty bread to soak up the extra sauce.
